Power of murals

Photo ofXimena Jiménez Hosted by Ximena Jiménez

I have always felt that creating murals in the public space has the ability to give something to the people who pass by it daily. I always try to make a positive impact. Unlike illustrative murals, which are open for interpretation, a typographic mural has a more direct and literal message. For this reason, I always try to leave the community with a phrase or word that truly represents them, brightens their days, motivates them, or generates some reflection. What mural messages have you created or found especially meaningful in your community?

Thanks you all for participating and sharing the walls that have meant something to you. Painting in the public space gives us a power and we have the possibility of using it to generate something positive in many people, make a statement and change the world wall by wall.

Thank you so much Stephen, so glad you liked my work! Thanks for sharing these beautiful and huge murals! Big scale always makes them look monumental. The “We Rise” one is straightforward, bold letters and plain background never misses the point. Also, big fan of Retna work too

@cylacosta What a lovely experience! Definitely a good idea to teach the children about collectively and get them fully involved. Always a big fan of your work, and how you put a lot of soul in each of your murals. So nice to see you here!

Ximena, I really like your Catarisis piece, and your other murals work. Great color and varied typographic styles! Thank you for hosting this week.

@hustwilson Nice one! Love how the letters are playing! I get some psychedelic vibes in the background shapes tools

Hi reachbgk, that's a beautiful mural made of mosaics. It has always seemed an admirable technique to me. Also, will love if you share the singer's name or links with us?

Ximena Jiménez

Thanks for sharing this Becky, such a strong message and image. Shepard Fairey always killing it!

@ellocina Wow! Too bad I missed this in NY. Looks like a mural who can make a NewYorker stop and contemplate, and that's not an easy thing to achieve.
