Repurposed rejects

Dealing with rejection is tough. As creators, we deal with the R word often, but is it a bad word? No. Imagine repurposing a reject to serve a different purpose—like to enhance your portfolio, draw attention on social media, or even store it to use elements for a future project. Share a reject you repurposed and tell the story behind it. Or if you have a reject with potential, share that. We all could use a little R&R.

The creative field isn't easy as everyone likes to play a creative director. It's important to stick to your guts and not give up as rejection happens to all of us. Think about how to breathe a new life into projects instead!

Robert Generette III

Kashka New life via Behance. I’m glad this RR has a happy ending. Imagine if work of this volume and quality was deleted or left to live on a hard drive.

Robert Generette III

mradot It is evident that you were truly invested in the packaging project. Unfortunately, as creators, we all have a tale similar to yours. Question: How would you repurpose this project? Light bulbs usually symbolize ideas. Share a bright one with us.

Robert Generette III

Koustav And Boris, I think a major detail is missing—rejection. The conversation is about how you overcome rejection by repurposing the rejected work. Feel free to share a story. I would love to see what you have.

Birgit (Continuing) …ever considered licensing as a stock image? Adobe Stock is a good start.

Robert Generette III

Birgit, Wow. I’m curious as to why the client felt this wasn’t the one—such a powerful image. This goes to prove that the client isn’t and shouldn’t be the “end all” when it comes to our work. I know you mentioned that the image was referenced a numerous time but have you…

Robert Generette III

Khoa, Sometimes the purpose finds you. Even if there’s not a particular purpose for a piece on its own. It could be the inspiration a series of work in the same style or with comment elements.

mradot

Love the gondola, Birgit! Really strong, but it's still human.

Kashka

Birgit, what a gorgeous gondola piece! It really captures the region well. Their loss your win with future commissions!

Kashka

Khoa, thank for sharing two great pieces! I'm sure they can find use beyond their original intent as they are very sticking. Keep up your great work!

@Robert, I would honestly love to repitch this as an exclusive screen-printed poster design for either a pop-up or museum exhibit for Iris. Honored that you think there is still life and potential in this design still, would love to see this in a gift shop on a shirt as well.

Robert Generette III

Khoa Thanks. I know all too well how the sports world works. The pin design is nice. As for the Century Design, I am curious as to how you might repurpose it. There’s a ton of potential there—so no wrong answers.

Nicolle

Khoa I have the SF Giants pin you made, it BURNS that the A's pin didn't get made especially since they go together in a face off design layout! Still crossing my fingers it can come to life one day!

Khoa Martin Hoang

Robert the Spiderman Illos was absolutely amazing! I lovvved the dynamic of the pose.

Robert Generette III

Amazing to see your RR, Mr. Yap.
