Inspire wonder

Photo ofAlice Lee Hosted by Alice Lee

Art has the power to inspire wonder, joy, and curiosity in each of us—to allow our imaginations to take the reins and create our own dream worlds. In my own work, I seek to explore that sense of wonder and hopefully inspire awe in the viewer as well. How do you use your artwork to create a sense of wonder in the world? Share an illustration you’ve created and tell us what you hope it inspires.

@byalicelee

To wrap up our visual conversation around *inspiring wonder*, I'm sharing a piece I created for the Adobe Make It Workshop earlier this year. It captures the feeling of seeing life re-open and unfold again. Thank you all for the wonderful submissions and conversation this week!

@byalicelee

Hi Kameron, thanks so much for sharing your piece! When I look at it, I can feel the sounds and flow of the piano music through the textures and swirling colors in this piece. Love it!

@byalicelee

NPrints Design Studio — wow, that is EXTREMELY impressive that this was 100% digital because it looks like an analog sculpture. Massive props to you, it's so unique — I dont think I've seen anything like this before! I'm really glad you shared your piece of Mysterious Wonder :)

NPrints Design Studio

Thank you so very much. I felt this was the perfect Visual Conversation for this composition. I am really glad you "felt" the Mysterious Wonder I wanted to convey.

NPrints Design Studio

Hi @alicelee! Thank you so much for your words! It's a Photoshop montage/manipulation/illustration. It's a few scanned images from various sources being tweaked , changed, recoloured+ recombined to achieve the illusion of 3d , using a very bright palette on a dark background. 1/2

@byalicelee

- what are some places in life that you find wonder as a person? for me, that comes from nature, childhood influences, and a good story. - what are some pieces of artwork / artists who have sparked wonder in you lately? I just discovered bojack horseman and I love the art!

@byalicelee

happy saturday everyone! I've been LOVING all of the wonder-full submissions this week: illustrations, 3D art, collages, sculpture, photographs. thank you all for sharing! I have some food for thought in the form of a few questions...

@byalicelee

@gabrielaradindesign ah, synchronicity indeed!. i love your use of the type with the branches of the tree, which visually underscores the power of synchronicity: how the passage of time leads all branches back to the same path again... beautiful synchronicity at work :)

@byalicelee

Hi anna, thank you for sharing this piece of us - I can taste that summer breeze! I'm also curious, what medium is this? it looks so realistic and shiny (3D / photo?)! Beautiful piece and ambiance.

@byalicelee

Hi @nprintsdesignstudio, thanks for your piece and comment! I LOVE this piece! wow, what medium is this? (3d/paper/sculpture?) super creative take on one of the most wonder-inspiring sources of all in life: the beauty and mystery of nature!

@byalicelee

@illustratedbynada cuteeee, I love it! who made this original DTIY? Love the concept and it certainly strikes a lot of wonder in me - I want to go to there! love your bright palette bursting with warm colors and the overall friendliness of this piece.

@byalicelee

Hi @the_cazpian_! I love the striking, black and white palette of this piece. your eye is drawn immediately to the king in the center, which is made even more inspiring by its personal symbolism to you. thank you for sharing this message of getting up after falling down :)

@byalicelee

@byap - I think this very much fits into the topic as it's a creature straight from your imagination! I often look back to childhood influences as a source for wonder-like inspiration. thank you for sharing this fierce dragon with us!

NPrints Design Studio

Very excited to join the conversation. I love this Visual forums, and I hope you'll enjoy my contribution as much as I love every pies that's been submitted up until now. Get in touch!

@byalicelee

@Sayah Tamba, thanks for sharing this photograph of these beautiful flowers!

@byalicelee

@design_a_studios, thanks for sharing your personal and very relatable story. I really resonates with the feelings you're describing and the composition of this piece - with how the darkness frames the character - brings out that juxtaposition between darkness and light, hope!

@byalicelee

Did y'all know that you can change the background of this whole website by clicking on the little colorful circle buttons in the upper right? Currently I'm using the pink:orange gradient and it makes my web browser look *magical*

@byalicelee

hi @sakeenatayebji! thank you for sharing this interesting topic with us! I love how you utilized a very limited palette and a wide range of textures and lighting to create a very intriguing, dark, and artistic interpretation of this topic.

@byalicelee

@anushkatendolkar, another super strong and inspiring piece from you! I love what a soft and striking vibe the textures and limited color palette create here. What software are you using to create these lush images? This purple<>blue gradient is one of my favorite color ranges!

@byalicelee

@anushkatendolkar, thank you so much for sharing this inspiring piece! I've wondered about what microorganisms look like at a large scale too! it reminds me a lot of "alice in wonderland" where the main character shrinks down and interacts with a much larger world. love it!

@byalicelee

@adso.cc, I enjoyed reading your description for such a fantastic, striking piece. I am a huge fan of this type of composition with a single character and an empty canvas. your use of empty space helps the piece feel full of longing and intrigue simultaneously.

@byalicelee

@sakeenatayebji - also for your second submission, I love the concept of the peaceful floating living room in the midst of the ocean! also a nice juxtaposition of textures: the rippling waves against the soft, familiar living room scene

@byalicelee

@sakeenatayebji, ooh, thanks so much for sharing that context! I hope we will be able to! :)

Sakeena Tayebji

@byalicelee thank you so much! This piece was imagined on thinking about what our relationship with tech would be like in the future. Would we humans be able to trust our tech, and join hands with it moving forward. So glad you enjoyed it! 🙌🏽🌻

@byalicelee

@sakeenatayebji, I love your use of color here! the juxtaposition of the soft organic curves + the wirey machinery texture is so intriguing here, really draws me in as a viewer. thank you for sharing!

@byalicelee
