What a beautiful design work the book cover is, so full of meaning! The cover of a book represents an invitation, offering hints of a universe. When I start a project, a world of infinite possibilities opens up in front of me. I think of a book as a magical object that has small physical dimensions, but carries vastness inside. Designing the cover is transforming the subjective into the visual, it’s pure symbolism. Share a book cover you created (or a favorite from your personal library) that shows off your local visual culture.

Thanks so much to everyone who participated in our visual conversation by sharing their special covers! It was beautiful to see the diversity of themes and styles, I hope you also enjoyed following along and seeing things from other cultures ;)

@kashkawtfit thanks for sharing this version! It's nice to see a different take on The Jungle Book, so symmetrical and organized, but still bringing important elements of the story.

@vasavastudio no sé si lo habría leído si no lo hubieras señalado, pero este tipo de lettering que es pura ilustración me parece increíble. Hermoso concepto y ejecución! Las portadas de esta revista son súper bonitas.

Aline, this selection by Laura is amazing, I love how energetic the covers are! Thanks for the 2 covers you shared, the one by Villu Toots goes to another level of expressiveness! The other by Tereza and Catarina also speaks to me in a deep way, I'm a huge fan of both of them.

Aline Kaori

Thought I’d add here this wonderful selection of book covers by type designer Laura Meseguer, boasting some delightful letterforms in them: https://www.alphabettes.org/laura-loves-lettering-on-book-covers/

I'm curious to see if anyone will share another edition of The Jungle Book or Little Women—I love seeing different takes on classics ;)

Cyla Costa

@witchtoria me too! Specially when I'm traveling (miss those days) I love to buy a book just by the cover and most of the times it's a good read. It's like wine labels, if they have the care of putting design thinking into it, the product is probably good.

Witchoria

I'm gonna be honest... I always judge a (literal) book by it's cover lol. It's led me to go on so many unexpected reading adventures.

@daniel.duda_ it's great that when we see that cover full size we can't hardly see the author's name but in a thumbnail size it suddenly pops out. Good concept too!

Cyla Costa

@hajdeja ehline thanks for sharing this cover of Fahrenheit 451, it's such a great concept! I also love the use of type in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas".

Cyla Costa

@alvaroefe that cover "The work of Art in the age of Mechanical Reproduction" is just genius! I didn't know about this one, thanks for sharing!

Stephen S

Great cover selections, everyone! Cyla, I love your expressive typography and illustrative work. Terrific cover designs!

Cyla Costa

@crispagnoncelli I absolutely love these covers you did for Tehlor's books! The papel picado themed compositions are lovely.

Cyla Costa

I LOVE the Bohemian Modern cover, I had an obsession with this kind of house drawing when I was a kid. The book binding is also cool.

Robert R

Go plywood! That cover is beautiful.

Hajdeja

What a great idea! I love the variety shown here and can't wait to see more. Might throw a favorite cover from my personal library too. It's going to be a difficult task.

Cyla Costa

That censored 1984 is also one of my favorites! You can't really see from this image, but beneath the black foil rectangles the name of the book and the author are embossed, masked but resisting being completely erased.

Kashka

I love seeing two different interpretations of 'The jungle book'. Does anyone else have one from their part of the world? Post more versions so we can all see how they are localized, not only by translation but also by the local art style.

Cyla Costa

Hello everyone! The idea here is that you share a book cover you created (or a favorite from your personal library) that shows off your local visual culture. Let's do this? :)
